Cumbria Opera Festival 2025
Lighting, sound and filming across two weeks, five venues and three operas at the 2025 Cumbria Opera Festival, for a company we've worked with for a decade.

Cumbria Opera Group brings full-scale opera to venues across the county every summer, and we've been working with them for around ten years: designing and running the lighting, providing sound, and filming the productions. The 2025 festival was our biggest yet.
Two weeks, five venues
- The Marriage of Figaro, Penrith Methodist Church. Lighting design, equipment and operation, from get-in through tech and dress to three performances.
- The Turn of the Screw, Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands. Lighting design, equipment and operation, on the new rig we had just installed in the hall.
- Porgy and Bess, Kendal Town Hall and the Tithe Barn, Carlisle. Sound for the singers and band, sized to fit a first-floor hall reached only by lift and stairs.
- Young Composers' Competition premiere, St John's Church, Keswick. Filmed and edited.
- Young Artists' Scheme. A film for each of the six young singers.
With performances overlapping across the county, we ran it with a team: our lighting operators took over each show once it was teched, while we moved on to rig the next venue.
On film
We filmed the productions and edited them into full-length films, arias and highlight clips for the company's website and socials, along with the festival trailer. A selection is below.
Simplistic but effective rustic designs, which were most evocatively illuminated by [1Five's] lighting arrangement.
We all love it. You're a genius!
