Skelton Show
Show-ground WiFi for one of Cumbria's biggest village shows, keeping traders, the bar and the commentary box connected in a field with almost no signal.
Skelton Show is one of the biggest village shows in Cumbria, and in 2026 it celebrated its 130th show. The field has very little mobile signal, and in 2024 the show's WiFi had failed, leaving traders unable to take card payments.
2025: the first year
We combined two satellite connections with a 4G backup and ran the whole network from our van near the church, with access points in both marquees and on the commentary box. Traders got their own network so staff and organisers always had enough speed. More than 300 people connected, and we delivered over 100GB of data through the day.
Thank you for all your input this year to make the WiFi happen… Thank you for your technical support and non-stop guidance throughout the day. It is very much appreciated, you did a sterling job.
2026: the 130th show
For the 130th show we took everything we'd learned from the first year and went bigger. We nearly doubled both the coverage and the number of access points, added a separate network for the bar, a dedicated link to the equestrian secretary's tent and a booster on the commentary van, and built in better protection against power problems.
The result was near-perfect coverage across the field from the first trader setting up to the last one packing away. The WiFi used to be one of the organisers' biggest worries on show day. In 2026 it was something they didn't have to think about at all.
The feedback from the trade marquees has been excellent and everyone seemed very happy, so well done and a big thank you. Please ensure Saturday 3rd July 2027 is in your diary as you are now an integral member of our show!
