The Victoria Hall in Grange-over-Sands is home to theatre, opera, concerts and community events, but its stage lighting was ageing, limited to a basic wash, and relied on tungsten lamps that are being phased out. Grange Town Council asked us for a better option.
Design
We surveyed the hall and put together a proposal with a choice of options, so the council could decide how far to go. Councillors backed it with real enthusiasm, and the new rig uses around a third of the power of the old one.
What went in
- 42 new LED fixtures: warm and cool white washes, full-colour washes, profile spots and battens
- Eight moving colour washes and four moving white spots, on the front-of-house booms and the balcony rails
- Desk-controlled house lights
- A ChamSys lighting desk
- New power and data distribution throughout, with extra sockets on the balcony
We installed it over three short stints in July and August 2025, around the hall's bookings, and it was ready for Cumbria Opera Group's production of The Turn of the Screw at the end of August, which we lit.
Aftercare
We wrote clear user guides for the hall team, ran training sessions, and look after the rig with regular servicing. We've also upgraded the hall's sound control, and trained the team to run it.
The lights (and haze) looked great!
